Hear me out so konami should make a yugioh Smash bros fighting game with only characters from Monster cards so that players can do actual combos.

I mean Magic the Gathering has experimented with new formats. Commander started as a format made by some dudes in college cause they wanted to use their old cards. They weren’t viable or legal in the type 2 or extended formats. Now commander exists as a social format where you can have a group of casuals or hardcore competitive playing but the social interaction dictates how it will be played. It’s not uncommon for someone to appear with a hyper competitive deck and get told we’re not playing at that level. And I don’t think Paul summed up to cry about it or embrace it, I think it was more go find your own fun in yugioh whether by making your own format or intentionally limiting what your play group uses . Maybe there can be a 75 card singleton yugioh format and the extra deck can have 25 cards and you have a monster you can cast that exist outside the game but each time you cast it after the first you have to tribute 1 additional creature (up to 5) and there is no ban list

I think Synchro and maybe XYZ was peak, then it fell off in popularity and changed too much for anyone to stay invested.

Limit all hand traps, get rid of generic boss monsters that have an untargeted negate, and create archetypes that are built around PLAY styles not SUMMONING styles to the same endboard. Also drastically reduce the amount and potency of floodgates. OOOORRRRR drastically increase the life total.

i’ve played nothing but rouge decks for years and year and a half ago i started playing commander and i found i liked the more casual format or the back and forth of the players how am i supposed to enjoy a game when a simple winning of the dice roll can decide who wins? i played dragunity on and off for years when pendulum first got released when zomos were good it played much better and when they finally got support again they played pretty well even against meta decks but it still wasn’t enough to compete with the insane power creep that yugioh has they would have to completely reform the format to make it more enjoyable for everyone not just the most expensive decks that are meta

Quit playing competitively and all paper play at the release SP, Horus, and Snake-Eye. The power creep has just reached an all new high that feels so insane. Every card has 3 effects, decks now are so consistent that every meta deck can consistently open 2 separate starters and 3 hand traps, and the crack back on these decks will break any board your opponent sets up if they even are able to crack your board, even if you had 0 starters/extenders in hand when you ended your turn. I dumped 10k+ easily on this game. Nothing about the game is genuinely enjoyable, so I've stopped all paper play, moved entirely to MTG's Commander format. I now just keep up with the meta, invest NO money, and play really crappy decks on omega for fun. (Ancient Warriors, Melffy, Relinquished, etc) If you feel the same way I do I feel that Commander will really truly be fun for you.

You’re right every community thinks their game sucks. But there’s no excuse for losing in the second turn that’s not fun lol. What’s the point of a banished field if there are cards that can get out of being banished lmao. What’s the point of the “graveyard” where destroyed cards go when it’s just used as a an easy way to summon. It just doesnt make any sense to me and I think they are too down the rabbit hole to even try to “fix” anything. What’s next? Losing on turn one, and watching the other player play for 4 minutes by himself summoning his whole deck. I wish master duel had different formats where certain deck types would or formats like GOAT format would be the style of play. I don’t think banning cards should be a thing but I do think there needs to be some sort of change. My idea for tcg is to make your own set of rules like “house rules” when you play with friends or at locals. But my biggest idea would be change card details for master duel. Make master duel the next big thing by being able to update the card details for overpowered cards or under powered cards. This way no card is banned but edited slightly.

The OCG gets to play for cheap and makes the bad prizing okay, we pay 4x the amount and have the same pricing that maybe gets you $150 if you sell it which is no where near the cost for time and deck building. Lorcana and one piece have waaaay better prizing and cheaper(Lorcana steel/emerald is more towards the cost of yugioh) with the prizing easily making up for the time and effort. Things won’t change till people and yugitubers start calling out the problem and that’s simply the price. For some reason people don’t want to and it’s baffling

I don't know guys - It's not hard to fix YuGiOh. Get rid of the multi use cards which you put basically in every Deck and it's much more enjoyable. You don't have suits to do it for you. Do it for yourself. Well... tournament players keep suffering but who actually cares.

Set rotation fixes yugioh, the game was different and better “back in the day”. The game started taking a turn for the worst when build a board decks became what the game was. Strategies literally being a combination of cards on a board that creates a round about flood gate. Prize support sucks, yugioh sucks and it’s why people are quitting and talking about other card games like lorcana. I feel like Paul’s opinion is heavily influenced by his relationship with Konami.

It failed in every aspect, it’s a video game that is not for fun but for competition, it has the worst way for deciding a champion that is the duelist cup then champion invitation only, it’s a joke of a game and thank God I quit 2 years ago. The very low IQ ban lists that they keep reversing and the no communication policy they do, it’s a complete disaster of a game and it makes sense that people will leave it, sooner or later. How can a game that is all about competitiveness has no way of making good tournaments? The duelist cup format is a joke, they could easily make a ycs competition format in MD but they don’t want to do it. I don’t understand those who still play it, is it that you try to make ur own fun? Because if that is the case then play Minecraft, the world will understand at least. Even the streamers of that game are so out of it they have to create their own fun because the game is so boring and uninteresting. Dkayed tournaments are the reason people are so bored of the game, people have seen the same decks 100 times in the cycle it takes for new meta to come, same plays same boards, what a sh!t game. Konami should have never went the competitive route for this game, it destroyed the whole vibe of yugioh for so many people, even people who were curious about the game ran away and warned people not to play the game because it is too out of reach, since it’s that competitive. My advice is to stop pandering to whales who have every card and know every deck, and start figuring out how to give new players a way to get into yugioh that is fun and interactive.
